We have been very lucky this winter with plenty of ice and an earlier start than the last two years. We were able to get started around Christmas time and trips have been rolling ever since! As always we focus on the overall experience and love introducing new people to the sport. Food is always provided with full day trips and I think it provides a great break in the day to recharge and rest, if the fish let us!
Each winter we focus our ice fishing trips around the Sebago region. We start out with the smaller ponds and as the larger lakes freeze and become safe we expand our offerings. Sebago Lake should be an option this year. We are just waiting for it to thicken up before we run trips on it due to safety with snowmobiles. This past week we have been chasing lake trout both by jigging with electronics and also with tip ups and it has been a welcome change. Next week we are running at least a couple pike trips along with pickerel and panfish trips. I like to keep a variety of options for clients so that we can tailor each trip to the expectations each group may have.
The three big options for food on our ice fishing trips this winter have been beef stew, smash burgers and fresh pizza on my Ooni oven. We try and keep it simple for our clients, but also hot and fresh. Nothing improves your spirit on a cold and blustery day than a freshly prepared warm meal! Don’t miss out on this opportunity for trying out this sport with booking a full day trip and having a hot lunch prepared for you right on the ice! All you need to do is buy a Maine fishing license, for those 16 and older, and dress warmly and be ready to have fun on the ice this winter!
